The top two sides in Group E go head to head on Wednesday night, as they fight over first place. Hosts Ajax need to finish up with a win to move into first, having made an impressive run through this competition so far. However, they come up against a Bayern Munich side who look to be getting back to their best. While these two played out a draw in Bavaria earlier in the group stage, it seems like the meeting in Amsterdam may be the tougher clash for the Dutch side. Can the hosts pull off a surprise and top the group?

Ajax are in fine form ahead of this clash, coming here with a five-game winning run behind them. The Dutch side have now moved within two points of top spot, and they look set to make a real push for the domestic title this season. However, their fight for silverware is on hold in midweek, as they look to land an impressive European achievement. They started this group as a side who had the potential of fighting for a top-two finish, but Ajax cruised into second with time to spare.

Bayern had a tough start in Europe, and they’ve been in mixed form throughout their season. This hasn’t been the perfect arrival in Munich for boss Niko Kovac, but of late they have looked like things are improving. They’ve won three straight games, scoring 10 goals in that run. The club are soaring in Europe after a 5-1 thrashing of Benfica, and they will want to wrap things up with a win over Ajax this week. Moving into top spot will give them an easier task in the last 16, and it will signal a turning point in their season.

Ajax will be hopeful of continuing their unbeaten record at home, but they’re set for their toughest clash of the group in this one. Bayern come here in fine form in their away trips, claiming 10 wins in 12 this season. While the visitors remain third in the table, they’re finally playing like champions. While Ajax are up and running in the league, there’s still an obvious gulf in quality between them and Bayern.

The Germans have won their last three Champions League games, and they come here in great form on their travels. They’ve won five of their last six trips, with their only setback a 2-2 draw at European champions Real Madrid. We expect that streak to continue for the Bundesliga giants, so we think the visitors are well priced to get a win in this one.

Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund are looking to wrap up their Champions League campaign with a win on Tuesday. They have already wrapped up a last 16 place, while hosts Monaco can’t get off the bottom of Group A. On the face of it, there’s not too much on the line for either side here. However, Dortmund’s slip in their last game cost them top spot. There’s still an outside chance of them moving top on the final day, so they need to make sure there’s no repeat of their slip against Brugge.

Monaco still sit in 19th place in Ligue 1, as Thierry Henry tries to guide the club to safety. While they were able to win at Amiens last week, they had their weekend game postponed. They have continued to struggle with their huge injury list, and with nothing riding on this game, expect them to rotate were possible. After all, their limited options mean they can’t afford to lose anyone in this clash, days ahead of a tough visit to Lyon.

Dortmund have opened up a nine-point lead over Bayern Munich, having won five of their last six outings. The weekend brought a 2-1 win away to rivals Schalke, and the visitors should carry on that form against a team who have lost five of their last seven matches. These two met back in October, with Dortmund running out 3-0 winners, and they are favourites to claim another three points here.

Monaco sitting bottom isn’t just down to this season’s failings. They’ve been in woeful form in Europe for a couple of years. Monaco have lost six successive European home matches, with these six matches seeing the Ligue 1 club score only three goals, while conceding 17. Before this run, they’d never previously lost more than two European home games in succession. To make matters worse, they’ve got a poor record in the final match of the campaign. Monaco have won just two of their eight previous MD6 games in the Champions League (D3 L3), their lowest win rate on a specific match-day in the group stages (25%).

This clash is set to show how far Monaco have fallen, given that their big high in Europe of late came against Tuesday’s opponents. Since beating Borussia Dortmund to reach the semi-finals in 2016-17, Monaco have failed to win their last 13 games in the Champions League (D3 L10), conceding 32 goals in this run and scoring just nine. With that form taken into consideration, we’re going with the Bundesliga leaders to wrap up with a win. They’re excellent value for success, given the form of both sides.

Ankaragucu OUR PICK: 2 ( Basaksehir to Win ) |  ODDS: 1.95 Basaksehir

It’s been a fine season so far for Basaksehir, who currently hold a four-point advantage at the top of the Turkish Super Lig. However, Monday’s visitors will arrive at Osmanlı Stadium having failed to win either of their last two matches, so there is some hope for the hosts, who’re searching for their first victory in five matches.

After going through a very successful patch around late October/early November, Ankaragucu are once again struggling to really leave their mark on the top flight this season. They’re not in immediate danger of being sucked into the relegation battle, as they sit six points above the bottom three, though Monday’s hosts have failed to win any of their last three, while their performances during that time have left plenty to be desired.

On the face of it, their draw against Rizespor last time out was a decent result, but they didn’t play well, nor did they deserve to take a share of the spoils. The fact that they clocked just 0.76 expected goals for tells us that they were perhaps a shade fortunate to find the net, while they were certainly lucky to not concede more than one, as they gave away a whopping 2.79 expected goals at the other end. A similar defensive effort against the league leaders will almost definitely land the hosts in trouble.

Basaksehir were defeated in the league for the first time in almost four months last time out, but while Ankaragucu were fortunate to draw, they were unfortunate to come away with nothing. They outdid they’re opponents in all areas, but simply didn’t get the rub of the green, so it’s probably fair to say that they’ll be fired up on Monday evening.

As you would expect from a team on top of the table, Basaksehir have been strong on their travels this season; they’ve won four out of seven on the road and have lost just once. The fact that they’ve allowed their opponents to score just twice away from home during the current campaign is particularly impressive. If we consider the fact that they’ve been breached just twice on their travels alongside the fact that they’ve surrendered an average of just 0.96 expected goals away from home, then it’s easy to conclude that the league leaders are an astute outfit at the back.

However, while they’ve looked very good defensively, Basaksehir haven’t been overly menacing going forward when playing away from home. They’re averaging just 1.29 expected goals for, which doesn’t exactly suggest that they’re amazingly creative, while they’ve scored more than once in just two of their seven away matches, notching a modest total of seven.

The hosts aren’t exactly powerhouses in the final third either. Ankaragucu are averaging just 1.06 expected goals for this season, which tells us that, just like Basaksehir away, they’re not really testing their opponents all that often.

From a betting point of view, with neither side looking overly menacing in the final third, ‘Under 2.5 Goals’ stands out at the prices. The visitors, who currently rank as Turkey’s best team in terms of both goals against and expected goals against, have the credentials to keep a lacklustre Ankaragucu attack quiet, though they’re not the sort of side to go away from home and win in high-scoring fashion, as we’ve seen on regular basis this season.

Huesca OUR PICK: 2 ( Real Madrid to Win ) |  ODDS: 1.30 Real Madrid

This will be quite an occasion at the Estadio El Alcoraz as Huesca host Real Madrid in a league match for the very first time. It would be an enormous shock were the La Liga strugglers to pull off an upset, but the kind of season Los Blancos have been having, you almost can’t rule anything out.

One look at the league table might suggest Huesca are a pretty hopeless cause. They are rooted to the foot of the table with just 7 points on the board and are already 7 points from safety. That deficit could reach double figures this weekend and already they’d have a mountain to climb in terms of preserving their top flight status. However they have been a lot more competitive than that and they’ve created 1.17 expected goals this term on average, less than the 1.4 of their opponents but not by as much as you might expect given their current position.

Therefore Real Madrid would be unwise to think they will have this game completely all their own way. With an average of just 1 point per away game this term, Santi Solari’s men are hardly pulling up any trees on the road but things have generally improved since the change in coach. The opposition may not have been fierce, but 7 wins from 8 in all competitions heading into this match has to represent progress.

The gulf in quality is such that Real Madrid should win this match. They have competition for places now, especially after impressive showings from Isco and Marco Asensio in the Copa del Rey with both men bagging braces to stake their claim for a starting role here. Solari may revert to the players that beat Valencia last weekend but with the likes of Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema struggling for goals, it’s hard to see the visitors running riot.

Real average just 1.43 goals per game away this term in La Liga and have failed to net in 3 of their last 5 road games in the league. 83% of Huesca’s home matches meanwhile have produced under 2.5 goals and the hosts may well have a fair amount of the ball and territory in this one.

A lot of their football isn’t bad but the finishing touch is still eluding them and they’ve not really shown any signs of finding a solution. They average just 0.67 goals per home game and have failed to net in their last 3 competitive outings although 2 of those were in the Copa del Rey, a competition they showed no interest in whatsoever.

Their defensive stats may be poor but are skewed considerably by their start to the season under Leo Franco and particularly an 8-2 loss at Camp Nou where they were naive in their gameplan. They’ve been much more cautious since Francisco took charge but they are yet to win under their new boss and it’s hard to see that changing here.

Backing Real Madrid & Under 3.5 Goals could be the way to go.

Arsenal managed to extend their unbeaten run again in midweek as they picked up a point in a 2-2 draw away to old enemies Manchester United, and while they certainly could have won that game it did raise a few concerns.

The first notable concern was the flurry of injury problems they suffered, with Rob Holding coming off the worse and set for a long spell on the sidelines. Secondly, while their attacking play is excellent at times, their organisation and ability at the other end of the pitch leaves a lot to be desired.

The Gunners may be unbeaten in 13 Premier League matches, but it’s largely thanks to the talents of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette. They have kept a meagre 2 clean sheets in the league this season, and their last shutout was all the way back in September. This defensive frailty is almost certain to come back and haunt them at some point, but it’s unlikely to make much of a difference on Saturday.

Huddersfield, despite their brief resurgence last month, are in real trouble this season. They have won just 2 of their 15 Premier League games so far and have lost 9 times. Their 2-1 loss against Bournemouth in midweek made it 26 goals conceded this term, and it leaves them only a point above the relegation zone.

The Terriers’ record against the Premier League Big Six isn’t confidence boosting for them either. Since their return to the top flight last season they have picked up 2 points from their 7 away days against the bigger clubs in the division, and they have lost all 4 of their home and away meetings with the Big Six this season.

Arsenal may be defensively poor, but they should have more than enough about them to get a win on Saturday. However, Huddersfield have now scored in 5 consecutive league matches and have only actually failed to score in 6 league games this season. Away from home their record, inexplicably, actually improves, with them failing to score in just 1 of their 7 trips away.

Considering Arsenal have conceded in 13 of their 15 league games this season, we think backing Arsenal to Win and Both Teams to Score is a good choice here along with a 3-1 correct score predictions.
